Here are some simple organic drinks you can easily make yourself. Ensure you purchase organic ingredients and enjoy!
Spiced Sloe Gin
Ingredients
900g sloes
25g honey
Zest of 1 orange
Zest of 1 lemon
2.5cm cube fresh root ginger, thinly sliced
1 cinnamon stick
6 cloves
1 bottle of gin
Method
Lightly crush the sloes with the end of a wooden rolling pin
Place in a wide-mouthed bottle and add the honey, orange and lemon zest, ginger, cinnamon stick and cloves
Fill to the top with gin. Cork and leave in the larder for between 6-12 months
Served with sparkling water, sloe gin makes a refreshing drink.
Served neat, it makes a good aperitif or after-dinner drink.
Mint Lemonade
Ingredients
110g fresh mint leaves
Juice of 3 lemons
110g sugar
700ml water
Method
Blend the mint leaves, lemon juice and sugar together in a processor, then add the water
Pour into a jug and chill well before serving.
Irish Coffee
Ingredients
44ml Irish whisky
1 teaspoon brown sugar
180 ml strong filter coffee
Double cream to taste
Method
Combine whisky, sugar and coffee together in a mug or a glass
Stir well
Place the tip of a dessertspoon at an angle into the coffee
Pour the cream over the back of the spoon so it floats on the coffee, and serve
Simple!
Apple Cider Lambswool
Ingredients
4 bramley apples, peeled and cored
1.2 litres cider
125g fresh orange juice
8 whole allspice berries
2.5cm cube fresh root ginger, sliced
½ teaspoon nutmeg, freshly grated
125ml brandy
Method
Roast the apples in a moderate oven until soft and pulpy
Heat the remaining ingredients in a stainless steel pan (do not boil)
Allow the spices to infuse for ten minutes, then scoop them out
Stir in the apple pulp and serve.
Mulled Wine
Ingredients
4 cloves
½ cinnamon stick
A few slices of fresh root ginger
Finely pared peel of 1 lemon
Finely pared peel of 1 orange
1 bottle red wine
1 tablespoon honey
A splash of brandy (optional)
Method
Put the spices, peel and wine in a pan
Heat to just below boiling point
Turn off the heat
Leave to infuse for 1 hour
Then add honey and brandy, gently reheat and serve.
